OUR APPROACH TO STRATEGY ENGAGEMENTS (SCORe):
S
SITUATION ANALYSIS
It is essential to define the problem or goal precisely. This requires challenging a client's existing beliefs on industry dynamics and business operations through rigorous fact-based evaluation. I can access a network of like-minded independent advisors and specialist consulting firms for niche expertise.
The aim is to give clients a fresh external perspective to help them overcome the complexity created by familiarity; presenting the realities in a crisp and simple way. Ultimately, my goal is to achieve clarity and alignment on the problem to be solved or the goal to be pursued.
C
CRITICAL & CREATIVE THINKING
I'm intellectually curious and apply learnings from other industries to push the thinking. Fresh ideas from outside the business are often needed to solve complex problems and achieve the goals identified. Synthesis is a key component of making sense of the insights gained through research activities.
I develop creative solutions, recognising the need to make prudent assumptions where the available data is imperfect. Relying on intuition as much as fact-based research and analysis is often critical, asking "what would have to be true?" as a way to test whether a particular idea is credible.
O
OPTIONS ASSESSMENT
Clients need to fully understand the options available through relevant assessment of weighted criteria. It is often helpful to understand which options not to pursue and why. You won't find a SWOT analysis in my work. Ever. Just to be clear - that's a good thing!
My role is to provoke debate on competing priorities to help clients reach the right decision. Compromise can be the enemy of making clear decisions and is only engaged in when it is clear that it is the correct course of action.
Re
ReCOMMENDATION
I strive to avoid complexity and frame simple solutions. I don't saddle my clients with workstream overload and complex programmes. I help my clients prioritise what needs to be done in order to solve the problem/achieve the goal.
A plan is out of date as soon as it has been presented. A strategy should not delivered through a detailed plan. It should be executed through following the choices and guiding principles established as part of the overall strategy. Working this way requires adaptability, with dynamic resource allocation across the client organisation.
